Beautiful Bamboo

Austin and his wife, Allie, wanted a light and natural look for their Westy interior. Both are ER physicians, and when they take off in their Westy for a well-earned break, they want a convenient, care-free interior that reflects their preference for eco-friendly materials. The obvious choice was bamboo, so the cabinet faces, as well as the counter tops are solid bamboo.

The project began with a tear-out of the existing, well-used cabinets. Then the fun part began. Louis first had to finalize the location of the batteries and computer under the rear seat, and then the work progressed from there.

The cabinets were built in the wood shop, and required several dry fittings. At this point, the van went off to the body shop for painting. Upon its return to Rhino Design, the finish work began. The wardrobe features double sliding doors and Louis’ signature shotgun drawer in the rear.

We use SMEV sink/stove units unless otherwise specified, and this van is fitted with a 2-burner/sink glass-top combo with a fold-down faucet. A TruckFridge TF49 completes the food prep area. Beautiful slate gray flooring complements the lightness of the bamboo. The corner seam detail of the bamboo makes a wonderful little design element.

The former rear air conditioning unit was replaced by a rear-access storage shelf/speaker cabinet. The icing on the cake is a deep utility shelf over the food prep area; the stainless steel cable railing echoes the other metal touches in the suite.  It’s also a handy place to set coffee mugs in the morning when lounging in the loft bed!  We think it t is an elegant interior, and our clients love it! So do we.
